Mother’s Circles

Last year, in response to the lockdowns, we began offering these circles as a way to fill a gap in opportunities for fellow mamas to gather, connect and build community. I also saw an opportunity for my doula apprentices to share their gifts, serve our community and practice their facilitation skills! We began with a prenatal circle that then evolved and gave birth to a postpartum circle as all of those women had their babies. What has unfolded is a warm and nourishing community of women, grateful for a space to share their experiences, feel witnessed, supported, uplifted and held.

[These Circles are]  such a grounding way to connect with like minded and hearted people on the journey to motherhood. The doulas were so amazing at showing up and holding space as a collective and [Sasha’s]  leadership was sooooo inspiring.

TESTIMONIALS FROM CIRCLE PARTICIPANTS:

Sasha, I want to thank you and all the amazing doulas for providing me with such an inspiring and soothing space during the weeks leading up to the birth of my baby boy. During my last session I felt so lucky to have the full attention and support of all the doulas (I think there were 6 of you and just me!), and the theme of post-partum care and rituals was so fitting. I have been carrying all of your wisdom and love with me, and have been reflecting on everyone’s shared experiences and thoughts even now that my baby boy is 3 weeks old. I had a beautiful home birth on June 4th.

I will definitely be answering the questions you posted to provide you with some specific feedback, but for now I just wanted to thank everyone for creating such a safe and inspiring haven every week. It was truly altering to have that space during these difficult times. Sending you all lots of love and gratitude,
-L. B.

FROM THE PAST CIRCLES

The Online Mother’s Circle was easily the most valuable activity I participated in as a new Mom. After each session, I left feeling filled up, confident, supported and heard. I was in good company among awesome like-minded new mothers. It was unbelievable how quickly I felt like I knew these women which was a surprise to me given the online platform. I was skeptical of what could be achieved not being face to face but we went deep quickly and covered so much territory! Through Sasha’s super powers as the ultimate facilitator she gently steered the conversation in directions I didn’t even know we were going but were so needed. I really can’t say enough good things about the online group or over state how much of a positive role it played for me in those early days.  – Jennifer Bosworth, Mama of baby Jet

The mother’s circle gave me a weekly safe space with other new moms to discuss questions, concerns and those ever changing emotions all without having to leave my living room. I was able to meet other women at a time that can be isolating as a new mother. I am happy to have these women as friends even after our circle concluded. Having completed 2 programs now with Sasha, both using the online platform, I can say that it was such a convenient and successful way to utilize her wealth of knowledge on birth and motherhood. She’s inspiring in so many ways, and I’m so glad I’ve had the chance to get to know her. – Daniela Marotta, mother of baby Felix

Feeling so thankful for this circle. Sasha is amazing and it’s inspiring connecting with other women in the mama circle.  As a new mom, this circle allowed me to talk about feelings in a community that offered reflection, encouragement and solidarity. The mother’s circle is like a container that catches all the joys and struggles throughout the week. Being witnessed, feelings transform, integrate and space is made for a deeper sense of self. – Kerry, mother of baby Oscar

Whether you are experiencing first-time motherhood or the arrival of a second or third child, I highly recommend investing in this supportive online mamma’s circle. Sasha facilitates a non-judgmental and positive community in which we connect with other mothers, our families, and ourselves. Having participated in four rounds of these circles, I can say with confidence that there will be tears, much laughter, no-holds-barred honesty about parenting joys and challenges, deep mutual respect, cheers of support, oodles of compassion, and a wise-woman feminist lens that recognizes the contexts in which we mother. Bottom line? This group makes me a better mamma and partner, a happier person, and enhances my ability to trust myself on the parenting path. Sasha is a wise blessing and a rare gem of a facilitator who attracts amazing women to work with- please give yourself the gift of this support and sign up already!Nicola Holmes, 42-year-old mamma of two and life & career coach. www.nicolaholmes.ca
