Labour Support

As women prepare to give birth, they look to their community for support through the labouring process; their partners, friends and professionals. Being asked to attend a birth is an honour, and yet can be intimidating for someone who has little or no previous experience with birth.

This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn more about providing support for women in labour; expectant partners, family members and friends, doulas or midwives in training.

In this three-hour workshop we will explore:

• What is the role of labour support?
• The stages of labour and the different needs of the labouring mother
• How to support a woman, both physically and emotionally, in labour
• The place of not knowing
• Who supports the labour support?
